Minimalist Punk Keith Irish was obsessed with no wave from early on. This obsession is one of the driving forces in the creation of Punk As A Doornail

No wave was a very small scene in New York City in the late 1970s. The most known acts were acts like The Contortions, Teenage Jesus & The Jerks, DNA and Mars (though all are pretty obscure do to the fact the scene was so small). The scene lasted about 6 months.

James Chance and Lydia Lunch are probably the most recognized as they continued on a global level after the scene ended.

Sonic Youth appears to be influenced by no wave, though they came a bit later.

For the most part, in order to qualify as no wave, one would have to qualify under these 3 items:

1. Exist around 1978
2. Exist in New York City
3. Produce Minimalistic/Atonal Punk/Jazz

Punk As A Doornail

Punk As A Doornail started in 1999 in Southern California. We use a skateboard guitar, so we're pretty limited in what we can play. We actually started as a conceptual art project that I thought up when I was in film school. I was really into classical minimalism,such as Philip Glass, Steve Reich and John Cage. I wanted to start a very arty punk band. No wave, minimalism and conceptual art drived me and Harry Partch was pretty much the catalyst to build the skatar

I think the best way to describe Punk As A Doornail would be SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA NO WAVE. But most people don't know about no wave and most people don't know Anaheim isn't in Los Angeles;
but then again, most people aren't gonna like Punk As A Doornail...I guess f' it.

We're So Cal No Wave.

Below are a few links to discover no wave. The best CD to buy as a good representation of no wave would be the "No New York Compilation"
